SITES BY YOUNG PEOPLE
hekids
Jodie, Jessie and Conner run this site for
home-educated kids. It has plenty on it and is well worth a look!
Christy's Garden
This site is by Christy, a Canadian who
has been home schooled. It is laid out like a garden and in it are
different articles, mainly about home schooling and mythology. I particularly
recommend the FAQ, where Christy answers those commonly-asked questions
with great honesty and clearness.
Thomas Paine's
site Thomas Paine, who lives in South
Australia, has been home-educated all his life and this is his site about him
and his hobbies.
Matt's
hideout This is a big, up-to-date site about Matt, who
is home educated. You will find plenty of things to look at - I recommend his
autobiography!
RECIPES
Vegetarian Recipes
around the World One of the
best collections of vegetarian recipes on the web!
Food
Down Under This Australian site has literally thousands of
recipes on it, from nearly every country in the world, which can all be
had free of charge. Don't be put off by the slightly drab colours,
because the recipes are genuinely good, and there are enough to suit all
tastes. A particularly useful feature is the search where you can type
in any ingredient and it will list all the appropriate recipes - if you
like to cook, this is one of those sights you will go back to again and
again!
LITERATURE
The
Internet classics archive - bringing the wisdom of the classics to the
Internet since 1994 An absolutely
fantastic site with so many of the old texts, including some in the original
Greek or Latin. Anyone interested in the classical works of literature
really must visit this site!
Ęsop's
Fables
This site has the complete collection of
Ęsop's fables on it. They are organised by title and moral and
make very good reading! There are no adverts either, which makes this
site easy to look round.
MUSIC
Tin
whistle site This fascinating site has lots of information on
playing a tin whistle, and sound clips of the online sheet music are
particularly helpful!
Song
Site This is a huge site with hundreds of complete
recordings of old-fashioned songs.
HISTORY
Hannibal
Barca and the Punic Wars I
believe that this is the best site on Roman history on the internet! Every fact
about Hannibal and the other Barcas as well as a hugely in-depth
overview of the first, second, and third Punic wars. Very concise and
littered with an impressive assortment of pictures and maps, it also contains
links to the many Latin and Greek texts. A must visit.
Tocqueville
Tocqueville was born in France, and travelled to
America in the 1830s. The exciting and fascinating notes by him and his
companion, as well as the book he wrote which made him famous, can all be read
on this very comprehensive site about him and his works.
Abraham
Lincoln Site This is the best site
that I have found on Abraham Lincoln. It is part of the very large Library
of Congress site which has approximately 20,000 documents of Abraham Lincoln's.
Its goal is "to offer broad public access to a wide range of historical
and cultural documents as a contribution to education and lifelong
learning".
Forum
Romanun - an electronic resource for
students and scholars
A really good site on Ancient Rome.
LANGUAGES
Travlang
A fascinating, useful, informative and fun
site, containing the basic words of masses of languages,
from French to Xhosa and Hindi to Breton! Unfortunately there are too
many adverts.
