Teaching
My Children...

has been teaching her children for over a year now and has some useful advice to
give other parents. Her and her children have their own site which you can

| I started home educating my children in the September of 2002 due to them being unhappy at school. I have always considered myself to be an impulsive person and to begin with, this was one of those spur of the moment decisions because I was feeling so frustrated at not being able to help my children, and having to sit back and watch them change from happy kids into angry human beings which society was failing. Looking back I am so glad I am that impulsive person because if I had thought about it too much my children would still be in that situation and I would still be feeling frustrated. |
My children are a lot happier now, and when I see them happy then I am happy too. |
| I am not saying home education
is easy, I have days when I question if I am doing the right thing,
usually when the children are fighting or just want to watch TV all day,
but on the whole I think it was the best decision I have made to date,
apart from having them of
course.
My children are a lot happier now and when I see them happy then I am happy too. They learn more than they ever did at school and they seem to learn from doing very little, plus they enjoy it. |

| It's not for everyone, you really have to enjoy having your children around you all day, I was one of those mums who would get upset in the playground at the start of the new term when all the other mums where cheering at the thought of "getting rid" of their children and having some peace. And as for having a tidy home, forget it! be prepared for paper cuttings all over the kitchen floor, Lego bricks blocking up the Hoover and never seeing your kitchen worktops clear again, but in all that chaos it feels so natural and I wish I had known it was legal years ago - before my children even went to school. |

| If I could give any advice to someone thinking about home education for their children it would be to give it a go and don't set high goals for yourself and your children, be patient and don't get too worked up if all your children want to do to start with is stay in bed or watch TV, but above all enjoy this experience it can be just as rewarding for us as parents as it is for the children. |
